Five Gamblers Who Managed To Win Systematically On The Roulette

Saturday, December 27th, 2008

Hundreds of people tried to achieve consistent winnings with roulette. A few of them got so good at it that they became world famous.

Joseph Jagger

Jagger was a English engeneer who believed the roulette couldn’t be in perfect balance and so some numbers would show up more often.

In 1873 he travelled to the Monte Carlo Casino and observed carefully the drawn numbers of the roulettes. After studying the outcomes, he saw that 9 numbers won more frequently.

In the three days after that he had won 60,000 pounds, an enormous sum in those days. The casino wasn’t happy and started to switch the roulettes every once in a while.

It started to become less easy to win and and Jagger headed back to England. There he gave up his job and invested his gathered money wisely in real estate.

The Eudaemon Group

Ever since computer technology became available roulette players started using it. The Eudaemons were professional gamblers: a group of physics students with the goal of winning money with roulette to fund a scientific society.

After 2 years of scientific research they had invented a little device that could calculate where the ball would stop.

In 1978 they drove to a casino in Vegas to try it out, but they had to quit suddenly because the playing group member received electrical shocks because of a defect in the device. Unfortunately: because on each and every dollar they made a profit of about 45%. The group fell apart and made ‘just’ 10,000 dollars.

Gonzalo Garcia-Pelayo

In the 1990’s about the same technique was used in the casino of Madrid. Together with some members of his family Gonzalo betted on the areas a computer predicted. They weren’t noticed for several years and won more than a million dollars.

The casino accused them of cheating… but got all the money back.

Courageous Roulette Bettor Ashley Revell

A man with a more understandable strategy was the professional poker player Revell. In 2004 he sold everything he possessed (including underwear) and went to Vegas to double the money on a single bet on roulette. The entire experience was broadcasted on British TV.

The viewers of the television show said he should bet on red… So he did: $135,300 were at risk. When the roulette stopped spinning the number turned out to be red. With the money he won he started his own poker room.

The Roulette Trio

Still in 2004, a Hungarian woman and two men won 1.3 million pound in the Ritz Casino. They made use of a cellphone with built-in laser to track the ball in the roulette. Not much after they got arrested on suspicion of cheating. But were set free later and got their entire winnings.

Learn How To Play Blackjack

Friday, December 26th, 2008

Millions of players have heard the message that of all the casino table games, blackjack is the one that it is possible to beat. A practical system for counting cards in blackjack to gain an edge over the casino was made available to the public in the early 1960s. As it happened, few players ever really learned to beat the dealer. Furthermore, playing conditions have changed since then. Some tables use more than one deck at a time or cut a percentage of the cards out of play so that a card counter never sees them.

Even though most players don’t have the skill to win consistently, the belief that blackjack can be beaten was enough to spark a boom in the game. Blackjack is by far the most popular casino table game in the United States, with more players than craps, roulette, and baccarat combined.

A lot of people don’t have either the patience, persistence, and concentration necessary for card counting or the bankroll to make it effective. But they can still narrow the house advantage to less than 1 percent in blackjack. The secret is to learn basic strategy for hitting, standing, doubling down, and splitting pairs. A little time spent learning to play well can make your money go a lot farther in the casino. In this article, you will learn the fundamentals of blackjack, as well as some strategies to increase your odds of winning. Let’s get started by winning big at blackjack:

he basics

The object of the blackjack game is to accumulate cards with point totals as close to 21 without going over 21. Face cards (Jacks, Queens and Kings) are worth 10 points. Aces are worth 1 or 11, whichever is preferable. Other cards are represented by their number.

If player and the House tie, it is a push and no one wins. Ace and 10 (Blackjack) on the first two cards dealt is an automatic player win at 1.5 to 1, unless the house ties. A player may stand at any time.

Playing blackjack

To win you need to beat the dealer without busting. You bust when your cards total to more than 21 and you lose automatically. The winner is whoever has closest to a total of 21. You reach 21 by adding up the values of the cards.

The blackjack table seats about 6 players. Either six or eight decks of cards are used and are shuffled together by the dealer and placed in a card dispensing box called ‘Shoe’.

Before receiving any cards players must place a wager. Then the players are dealt two cards face up. The dealer gets one face up, one face down. Each player in turn either stays or takes more cards to try and get closer to 21 without busting. Players who do not bust wait for the dealer’s turn. When all the players are done, the dealer turns up the down card. By rule, on counts of 17 or higher the dealer must stay; on counts of 16 or lower the dealer must draw.

The first such event will take place at Harrah’s Atlantic City on Jan. 24 – 25. Then two weeks later, the WSOP Academy will head to Las Vegas to host a Cash Game Academy at Caesars Palace on Feb. 7 - 8. Both events will feature instruction from poker pros Mark Seif, Paul Wasicka and Alex Outhred among the instructors scheduled for the Atlantic City event and Seif, Outhred and Michael Gracz slated for the Las Vegas event.
